USA Network's Tupac-Notorious B.I.G. Murder Drama 'Unsolved' Gets First Trailer
"This case is legendary."
It's unclear whether Josh Duhamel's Detective Greg Kading is talking about the investigation into the murder of Tupac Shakur or Christopher Wallace, aka The Notorious B.I.G., in the first trailer for USA's upcoming drama Unsolved, but it could go either way.
More than 20 years after the two famed rappers were killed, their tragic deaths remain unsolved, which is what makes their cases ripe for a fresh set of eyes.
In this dramatic true-crime-esque retelling, a la The People vs. O.J. Simpson, Duhamel, Westworld star Jimmi Simpson and Fargo season-two breakout Bokeem Woodbine star as members of the Los Angeles Police Department trying to find answers.
Although they were killed six months apart (Shakur in September 1996 in Las Vegas and Wallace in March 1997 in Los Angeles), there have always been theories that their deaths were connected — something the series clearly plans to explore.
"There is a very real possibility that the murder of Biggie Smalls is directly related to the murder of Tupac," Simpson's Detective Russell Poole says in the trailer.
The first trailer for the series, which was directed by People v. O.J. Simpson's Anthony Hemingway, also reveals a first look at the two actors playing the rappers themselves. Marcc Rose once again plays Shakur after tackling the rapper-actor in Straight Outta Compton, while Wavyy Jonez plays Biggie. Fresh off her acclaimed turn on Underground as Harriet Tubman, Aisha Hinds appears as yet another real-life figure, Biggie Smalls' mom, Voletta Wallace.
